What is the Morse Code Decoder?
Morse code encodes each letter, digit and punctuation mark as a unique sequence of short signals (dots) and long signals (dashes), and a Morse decoder maps those sequences back to the characters they represent.
Developed for telegraphy in the 1840s and still in daily use by amateur radio operators, Morse code assigns shorter sequences to more frequent letters — E is a single dot, T a single dash — which makes it remarkably efficient for a hand-keyed system. Timing carries the structure: a dash is three dots long, letters are separated by a three-dot gap and words by a seven-dot gap.
In written form those gaps become spaces and slashes: a single space between letters, a / or double space between words. This translator accepts dots and dashes in the usual notations (. and -, or · and –), handles letters, digits and common punctuation, and converts in both directions.
